The Art Of The Window Display
In a bygone era, strolling down a bustling high street meant being greeted by the allure of merchant shops, each adorned with captivating window displays that beckoned passersby to explore the luxurious treasures within.
These meticulously curated displays were a feast for the eyes, often crafted by specialists or the merchants themselves, transforming windows into thematic dreamscapes reminiscent of cinematic sets. Showcasing the latest European imports or the most recent creations, these displays were an art form in their own right.
As time evolved, the focus has shifted towards creating personalized interior experiences, leaving behind the tradition of enchanting window displays. However, in the heart of Glen Huntly, one designer has steadfastly preserved this magical tradition – Jody Kahlon.
Jody’s window displays are not just presentations; they are masterpieces deserving of a gallery. The locals in Glen Huntly have been captivated by these displays for years, and the continuous praise they receive fuels Jody’s passion to push boundaries and create even more enchanting showcases.
Collaborating with some of Melbourne and Sydney’s finest contemporary painters, designers, and sculptors, Jody transforms her displays into immersive dreamscapes and cinematic installations. Renowned artists such as Helen Gory, Nuha Saad, Robin Burgess, Carolyn Kenrick, and even the artistic prowess of a 7-year-old creative, Catia De Nicola, have contributed to the allure of her windows.
I love designing window displays. Coming up with the idea, sourcing artists and designing pieces to fit the theme. It’s so much fun and a great opportunity to meet new creatives. The local community really enjoys our displays and we feel good about ‘giving back.

Now, these windows, the creative process, and the awe-inspiring outcomes have been meticulously archived in the following pages. Join us on a journey into a realm where art, fashion, and imagination converge.
